Paper Jam Quick Guide
Use the copier’s on-screen jam diagram as your primary guide. These general steps can help with a simple jam without risking damage to the machine.
Clear a Simple Jam
- Read the on-screen message and note the area shown in the jam diagram.
- Open only the cover, tray, or finisher section indicated by the display.
- Remove the paper slowly and evenly. Do not yank or tear it.
- Check the area for small scraps of paper before closing the cover.
- Close all doors and trays completely, then follow the screen prompts.
- Run a small test job.
If the same area jams again, stop repeatedly clearing it and submit a service request. A recurring jam can indicate worn rollers, damaged paper, a sensor issue, or an adjustment that needs service.
Stop and Call for Service If…
- The paper is wrapped tightly around a roller.
- You would need a tool to reach the paper.
- The paper tears and part of it remains inside.
- The jam is near a hot fuser area and is not easily accessible.
- The same jam returns after one careful attempt.
- You see a broken guide, roller, sensor flag, or other loose part.
Do not force doors, trays, rollers, or finishing components.
